The Bollea v. Gawker Media jury trial begins today in St. Petersburg, Fla. and thanks to the wonders of modern technology, you can watch it all live right here.
The basis of the trial began in 2012, when Gawker posted a 1,400-word narrative of the experience of watching a video of Hogan (real name Terry Bollea) having sex with the wife of his good friend, Tampa radio shock host Bubba the Love Sponge Clem, while Clem was occasionally present. The post was accompanied by a brief, highly edited clip of the video.
Hogan is now alleging, among other things, that publication of the video was a violation of his privacy. Gawker is arguing that Hogan’s frequent public discussion of his sex life made the clip newsworthy, and thus protected under the First Amendment.
The trial is expected to begin today with opening arguments from Hogan’s attorneys.
