On Wednesday, Brian Encinia, the Texas state trooper who stopped and arrested Sandra Bland, who died, three days later, in jail, was indicted for perjury. In a statement, the Texas Department of Public Safety said that it would “begin termination proceedings” against Encinia.

Encinia was indicted for lying in an affidavit about the traffic stop, during which he arrested Bland, and which was captured in dashcam video. From the Associated Press:

Dashcam video shows the traffic stop quickly became confrontational, with Encinia holding a stun gun and yelling, “I will light you up!” after Bland refused to get out of her car.

Encinia is accused of lying about how he removed Bland from her vehicle

The same grand jury declined last month to indict sheriff’s officials or jailers.

Bland’s death was ruled a suicide.
