Tracy Morgan gave an emotional interview to The Today Show’s Matt Lauer this morning, the first since a Walmart truck crashed into his limo last June, severely injuring Morgan and killing his friend, the comedian James McNair. “The case is settled, but the pain is always going to be there for Jimmy Mac,” Morgan said. “Bones heal, but the loss of my friend will never heal.”

“I don’t remember the accident,” Morgan said. Later, he told Lauer the he didn’t find out McNair had died until two weeks after the accident, when he came out of a coma.

“When I got home, it really hit me,” he said. “Every day I would just watch the accident on YouTube. One day I saw [McNair’s] funeral on YouTube, and I lost it for about a week.”

“I had to know what happened to my friend,” Morgan said when asked why he watched the funeral and crash online. “I had to know, and I had to pay my respects. That was my way.”

McNair’s family reportedly received a settlement of $10 million from Walmart earlier this year. Last week, Morgan reached a settlement with the retail giant for an undisclosed amount.
