A Guide to NYC's Celebrity-Owned Bars and Restaurants

cityfile · 08/05/08 01:01PM

There's probably been a time or two when you've been tempted to check out a restaurant or bar simply because some celebrity supposedly "owns" it. Maybe I'll see Justin Timberlake devouring a plate of ribs at Southern Hospitality! Or I'll spot Robert De Niro slurping on some pasta at Ago! Restaurateurs know this, too, of course, which is why they're all so eager to attach a celebrity name—any one will do!—to their ill-conceived bistro, brasserie, speakeasy, lounge, or barbecue shack. We don't want to be the ones to crush your dreams and tell you that there's no chance you'll see these famous faces at these venues. Just in case you're the more optimistic type—or just curious who has a stake in what—we happily introduce the Cityfile celebrity-owned restaurant/bar map!

Rachel Roy Pulls in a New Partner

cityfile · 06/12/08 03:44AM

It's good to be Rachel Roy at the moment: The mother of two—daughter Talullah was born just a month ago—is now selling a 50% share in her eponymous fashion company to the Jones Apparel Group, the fashion behemoth that controls Nine West and Anne Klein, among other lines. Roy's label, popular with youthful socialites and the occasional celeb, was founded a few years ago with backing from the designer's rap mogul husband Damon Dash. Now it will now go into major expansion mode with new lines like shoes and perfume, freestanding stores, and even a diffusion line for women who, tragically, don't have $1,000 to spend on a dress they'll wear once.

The Accompanied Library Is Back—Thanks To Damon Dash?

Joshua Stein · 10/24/07 11:15AM

Last night we were at the National Arts Club for the launch party for Supper Club, Tamsin Lonsdale's socialite dining and dating club, now being imported from London. Supper Club boasts a huge committee of the social set. Everyone's breath smelled like smoked salmon. The place brings back memories! The National Arts Club used to rent out an apartment there, via sort-of art dealer and real estate heir and "party-going bachelor" Tim Nye, to the Accompanied Library, the now-defunct lending library and literary salon. But apparently the relationship between Library co-founder Brooke Geahan and Nye went south, and Nye tossed them out.

Celebrity Trading: Damon Dash Makes Dollars

Choire · 04/11/07 05:15PM

Trader Monthly, our favorite magazine in the world for thick-necked cigar-smoking i-bankers and the women who unwillingly love them behind dumpsters on 27th Street, has been giving various random people $50K to invest, with the profits going to charity. The results to date prove, unsurprisingly, that Damon Dash is a lot smarter than Moby, and that Jamie-Lynn Sigler is dumb as all get-out.
