On Thursday, the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that Americans do not have a constitutional right to carry concealed guns in public. “The 2nd Amendment may or may not protect to some degree a right of a member of the general public to carry a firearm in public,” Judge William A. Fletcher wrote for the majority. “If there is such a right, it is only a right to carry a firearm openly.”
Republicans in the Texas House of Representatives rushed to approve a “campus carry” measure last night that will allow students at the state’s public and private universities to carry concealed weapons in classrooms, buildings, and even dorms. The bill’s sponsor, State Rep. Allen Fletcher, said the measure would address crime on campus.
A teacher at Westbrook Elementary School in Taylorsville, Utah, accidentally shot herself in the leg this morning while preparing to mold young minds in the teacher's lounge. According to KSL TV, "no students were present when the shot was fired," but the teacher is in "serious condition." She was rushed to a local hospital.
Back in August, officials at the University of Colorado's Colorado Springs and Boulder campuses announced the creation of a separate dorm for students aged 21 and older with concealed-carry gun permits. So far, exactly zero CU students have elected to move in, according to a university spokesperson.
