In a statement on Thursday, police said that Tony Torrez, 32, confessed to the fatal shooting of Lilly Garcia, 4, in a road-rage incident in Albuquerque this week.

According to the New York Times, Torrez was arrested after police received a tip from an anonymous caller. “The caller provided detectives the suspect’s name,” police said. “With that information and multiple tips from the community, detectives were able to find the suspect.”

Lilly Garcia died after Torrez fired into the car she was riding after her father picked her and her 7-year-old brother up from school. “The father stated he had just picked up his daughter and 7-year-old son from school and were attempting to exit the freeway,” the police statement said, according to Reuters, before Torrez cut across traffic and in front of the family’s car.

“The two drivers exchanged words when Torrez pulled out a gun and shot at the red truck driven by Lilly’s father. Lilly was hit at least once in the head,” the statement continued.

Police said that Torrez “confessed to investigators he was responsible for the murder” on Wednesday evening.

He was charged with murder, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, assault with intent to commit a violent felony, shooting at a motor vehicle, child abuse, child abuse resulting in death, and tampering in evidence.
