Famed Hollywood filmmaker Tony Scott, who leapt to his death off the Vincent Thomas Bridge in Los Angeles yesterday afternoon, had been diagnosed with inoperable brain cancer according to ABC News.

A source close to the Top Gun director made the claim, but did not elaborate.

LA County assistant chief coroner Ed Winter told the Daily News an autopsy would be conducted this morning. "We might (see a brain issue), but we don't have anything medically confirmed at this time," Winter said.

TMZ says it spoke with law enforcement sources who have provided the gossip site with more information concerning the nature of the suicide notes found in Scott's car and office.

According to TMZ's sources, the note found in his Toyota Prius was a "contact list" of people Scott wished to have notified of his death. The note found in his office was "far more detailed about the reason the director took his life."

Scott was 68 years old and had multiple projects, including a Top Gun sequel, in development at the time of his death.
