Santa Monica-based artist Lorenzo Maggiore is seeking $15,000 from generous donors to help cover the mass production costs of his latest invention: A shotgun-themed "insect eradication device" that offers a "chemical free alternative for eradicating pesky insects."

The Bug-A-Salt uses over-the-counter table salt in lieu of live ammo to blast flies and other pests up to three feet from the shotgun. "Insect hunting an sport has entered the 21st century with this fun, new non-toxic device," reads the sales pitch.

Years in the making, the firearm requires a final financial push to become a reality. For this, Maggiore has turned to the crowdfunding website Indiegogo, where the gun can be preordered for a $30 contribution.

Big spenders can opt for the $2,500 "Arms Dealer" package: 144 Bug-A-Salt guns for you and your clan.
