Scariest Thing About the Addams Family Musical Is the Review
Ben Brantley, grand doyenne of New York Times theater criticism, reviewed the new Nathan Lane/Bebe Neuwirth Addams Family musical today and boyyy did he hate it. It's one of the most scathing theater reviews we've read in a long while.
Our favorite quote:
A tepid goulash of vaudeville song-and-dance routines, Borscht Belt jokes, stingless sitcom zingers and homey romantic plotlines that were mossy in the age of "Father Knows Best," "The Addams Family" is most distinctive for its wholesale inability to hold on to a consistent tone or an internal logic.
Two snaps, Mr. Brantley. Two snaps. Luckily for the show, it has huge advance sales. [NYT]
