Yeah, I am a reformed Yankee myself. Been out for about 6 years. The closest thing to a northern city is going to be Atlanta. Mostly because it's full of Yankees. I am a firm believer that life in the south is worth it. I'd be a freakshow of anxiety if I lived back up north. If you ever need an unfounded opinion on various southern cities...I'm your gal.

Ha, well, I wrote out a long message - I hope it pops up. I'll check back to make sure that it has... don't want to leave you hanging.

Ha! No, my answer is not based upon NY. In fact, I live down South. I've lived in NOLA, which some believe to be a pretty terrible, although entertaining, place. In my opinion, Memphis is a very sad place. There is very little to no industry (Fed Ex and Wonderbread are the biggest, I believe), violence is rampant and the poverty is astounding. I've heard it referred to as NOLA-lite, but with less entertainment. Downtown Memphis is utterly depressing - Main Street has many boarded up storefronts and there are a number of boarded up tall buildings (from a distance, they look like cool marble buildings, up close...not so much). Granted, there is a little bit of revitalization (like around the Arcade) - and I hope it takes off.
