We're coming to this a little late, but it's still worth sharing: Noted sensitivity expert Rosie O'Donnell, discussing Danny DeVito's recent appearance on "The View" (he was drunk), expressed her amazement at how far the story had traveled. In fact, it went all the way to China, where people talk like... well, just watch the clip.

maybe her one asian friend will read her the riot act for this one.
In the dyke community, the language was muffled.
You aporogize now, resbian twatwaffre.
Happily for Rosie, this may travel millions of miles too.
Devon Aoiki is gonna be pissed...
Whatever. This would have been much better if she pulled her eyes back in the 'slant'
Well, to be fair, her previous experience with "the Chinese" was what she read off the takeout menu...
Dou-chey.
Good lord. What, no oversized glasses and fake novelty teeth?
Rosie was a mediocre stand-up comedian and now she is an insufferable, stupid and sometimes just plain nasty and mean blowhard. Why does she get paid to do this?
Acceptable racism?
She should have gone all the way and called them Orientals.
Besides, they're too busy singing Christmas carols in China right now: "Deck the harrs wif boughs of horry, fa ra ra ra ra, ra ra ra ra! 'Tis the season to be jorry..."
She now takes her act to The Laugh Factory, extra special guest: Michael Richards!
Kelly Ripa is somehow homophobic for not wanting Gay Aiken's hand on her face, but Rosie's NOT racist, oh no, she's just making a funny. Kind of like making a doody.
Can't we eject the bitch from the gays? At least Ellen's just kinda boring.
Good lord. What, no oversized glasses and fake novelty teeth?
Yeah -- that's Japanese, not Chinese.
i'm so disappointed in rosie -- she should know she needs to get much more nasal to make it sound like real chinese
Agreed, Meredith.
Chinese would be buck teeth, one of those conical peasant hats and a braided ponytail.
Let's not be too hasty. What if she was actually speaking Chinese? Then -we'd- be the ones feeling stupid for calling her an angry, ugly, ignorant, unfunny bitch. Which she is regardless, but still.
I know she's talking, but all I hear is 'Shella shella.' That's the Korean sound for mock English. Like English speakers have a monopoly on this sort of thing.
Right on that count, Heather. The next time we hear a comic saying, "Wot Wot, tally-ho, bangers & mash!" that comic must immediately phone Tony Blair, Camilla Parker-Bowles, and Pete Doherty for public "apologies."
Rosie's clear spoof of "Chinese" is NOT on par with pulling a Michael Richards.
the diff is, there isn't a history of hurt/hate behind "what ho" and "blimey"
Reminded me of this--not a big deal and I love the Consumerist, but it comes from the same notion:

Historically, "ching chong" has been used as an ethnic slur.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ching_Chong
So, it doesn't matter if YOU found it offensive or not, "ching chong" is an ethnic and racial slur. And like all other ethnic and racial slurs, no matter how you use it, with or without racist intent, IT WILL OFFEND AND SIGNIFY RACISM.
Asians, I mean Orientals, are fair game here. Their complaints have less consequence than Blacks, I mean African Americans, Mexicans, I mean Latino Americans and Jews, I mean Jewish Americans.
Bring on the Jew Jokes, Rosie! I dare you!
Rosie has always been insensitvie inmatters regarding race. The Michael Richads incident barely caused her to emit a peep yet she completely invented an issue re: Clay Aiken and Kelly Ripa. Even Aiken didn't read it the way she did.
And I disagree that Asians are "fair game". Perhaps slurs against Asians have been the cause of less public outrage than should be but that doesn't make those slurs any less worthy of outrage. Asians in America have long been the targets of abuse and racism. The only difference is that in the years following World War Two (when disgusting acts sanctioned by the government were committed against the Asian population) is that overt and viloent racial acts against Asians, while not disappearing entirley, have ebbed somewhat and, until very recently when such things seem to be making a resurgence, haven't been as prevalent as the violence committed against Blacks and the vitriol expressed against Jews.
Your comments, arealasianamerican, betray a certain tinge of reacism on your part too. Because things are bad for one group does not mean they aren't also bad for another. When oppressed groups begin to realize that it is bigotry itself, not just bigotry toward their group or any one group in particular, then real progress will be made.
TWO WORDS: LINGUISTIC DISCRIMINATION. Researcher Skutnabb-Kangas (1998) has discussed 'linguicism' and varying levels of linguistic oppression found among marginalized groups in the U.S. She defines linguicism as "ideologies and structures that are used to legitimate, effectuate, and reproduce an unequal division of power and resources, both material and non material, between groups that are defined on the basis of language"(13). Linguicism begin with stereotypes and is based upon what language one speaks; with what mastery one speaks it, then whether the speaker has an accent. ROSIE IS FORGETTING ABOUT HER WHITE PRIVILEGE WHICH SHE USES TO OPPRESS ASIANS, ASIAN AMERICANS and ALL HISTORICALLY AND LINGUISTICALLY MARGINALIZED COMMUNITIES.
